JD Property Group has officially commenced construction on its highly anticipated Secret Garden project, a landmark Byron Bay property development set to redefine the town centre.
Located at 119 Jonson Street, Secret Garden is a standout offering in luxury Byron Bay real estate. The development will transform a historic site into a vibrant mixed-use precinct, all underpinned by a commitment to sustainability and thoughtful design.
A sod-turning ceremony was held to celebrate the start of construction, with local leaders, community members, and key stakeholders in attendance. Byron Shire Mayor Michael Lyon spoke at the event, acknowledging the positive impact the project is expected to have on the local streetscape.
“The people behind this project won best boutique development in Australia for their Jonson Lane project,” said Mayor Lyon. “Based on Council’s work with this developer to date, we will see a significant improvement in the streetscape as well as new public spaces.”
A Byron Bay Development with Deep Local Roots
The site, formerly home to a preschool that served the Byron community for nearly 40 years, holds personal significance for JD Property Group’s Managing Director, Jason Dunn, who attended the preschool as a child.
“This is a deeply meaningful moment,” Dunn said. “I’m grateful to the Anglican Church and the local community for their trust. Secret Garden will honour the past while delivering something truly special for Byron’s future.”
As a nod to the site’s heritage, a mature melaleuca tree on the corner will be preserved and integrated into the development’s landscape design.
