Jonson Lane, the laneway dining and retail precinct sitting at 139 Jonson Street, is now home to Australia's 1,000th Tesla Supercharger. Installed this month, it’s a milestone Tesla has marked with a custom-designed wrap depicting the Byron Pass, the surf break between Clarkes Beach and Wategoes.
Helping to power the now 10-strong lineup of Superchargers at Jonson Lane are the existing rooftop solar panels, connecting clean energy generation and consumption within the one site.
For Tesla, the milestone means drivers can now access 10,000 km of Australia's major travel corridors via the Supercharger network, including the full coastal journey between Sydney and Brisbane.
And for local EV drivers, the timing is significant. Working chargers in Byron have been difficult to come by, and this expansion makes Jonson Lane the largest and most capable fast-charging site within 50 kilometres.
"We've always thought carefully about what Jonson Lane offers to the broader Byron community, not just the people who eat and shop here," said Jason Dunn, Managing Director of JD Property Group. "The fact we’ve been able to partner with Tesla for a milestone of this significance, and create something genuinely local to mark it, means a lot to us."
The commemorative design was developed specifically for this location. It is one of only a handful of custom Supercharger posts Tesla has produced in Australia, joining a green-and-gold design commissioned for the network's 100th site in 2024.
Jonson Lane is located at 139 Jonson Street, Byron Bay. The Supercharger station is accessible via Browning Street.
